With over 15 years of experience in the telecommunications and technology sectors, Neha Deradi’s career has been a blend of technical expertise and strategic leadership. Neha Deradi has worked with some of the world’s largest and most impactful companies, helping to design and implement solutions that drive innovation and operational excellence. Her background includes product life cycle management (dealing with the worldwide market), pre-sales, operations, network planning and engineering, network infrastructure, and digital transformation.

As part of her role at GCX, she is focused on leveraging the company’s global submarine network and advanced connectivity solutions to create lasting business value. Neha shared in her own words what motivates and drives her, “My passion extends beyond just technology—I am also deeply committed to empowering the next generation of women in tech through initiatives like the “Women in Technology” (W-in Tech) program, which I proudly lead within the company.”

Could you share some insights into your background and how you came to join GCX?

My journey into the telecom and technology sectors started with a deep fascination for how connectivity shapes the world. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working on transformative projects across various domains, but what truly drew me to GCX was the company’s vast, global network and innovative approach to digital transformation. GCX’s unparalleled submarine cable network, combined with its strategic vision for global connectivity, represented an exciting opportunity for me to leverage my skills on a much larger stage.

When I joined GCX, I was excited about the possibility of contributing to a company with such a pivotal role in connecting continents, businesses, and people. I’ve always believed that technology can be a powerful enabler of progress, and GCX’s commitment to delivering next-generation connectivity solutions—whether through our state-of-the-art subsea cables, network services, or infrastructure—resonated deeply with my own values. It was the perfect environment to not only grow but also to drive impact.

Neha Deradi, what motivates you in your role at GCX, and how do you maintain your inspiration?

At GCX, what drives me is knowing that the work we do directly impacts how the world communicates and conducts business. Our expansive submarine network, stretching across the globe, enables seamless, reliable connections between industries and economies. Knowing that we are at the core of powering global commerce, innovation, and human interaction is an incredible source of motivation.

I maintain my inspiration by focusing on the big picture—how each project contributes to the larger goal of connecting the world. The dynamic nature of the telecom industry and the constant evolution of technology ensure that there’s always something new to learn or a challenge to overcome. I’m also deeply inspired by the team I work with and the sense of purpose that comes from driving GCX’s mission forward.

Is there a specific project or achievement at GCX that you are particularly proud of?

Every project, whether it’s the Launch of a new product (remote peering) or the D-SAT digital transformation project which digitizes the Service Availability table from an Excel spreadsheet to an online tool that can be coupled with individual Microsoft Teams applications, holds a special place in my heart. I am proud of every project I worked on since it was satisfying to see it through to a successful conclusion that improved network performance and customer satisfaction.

How do you approach challenges and overcome obstacles in your work?

Challenges, especially in an industry as dynamic as telecom, are inevitable. When I face obstacles, I like to approach them systematically—breaking them down into manageable parts and looking at them from both a technical and strategic perspective. With GCX’s global presence, the scale of our operations means that challenges can have wide-reaching implications. Therefore, I believe in working collaboratively, tapping into the wealth of expertise that exists across our teams.

I’m also a firm believer in staying agile and adaptable. The industry is constantly evolving, and what worked yesterday may not be the solution for tomorrow. Keeping a pulse on new technologies, and industry trends, and being willing to pivot when necessary has been key to overcoming obstacles.

What role do your colleagues and team members play in your success at GCX?

The collective intelligence and dedication of my colleagues are what makes everything possible. In a company like GCX, where we operate on a truly global scale, teamwork is essential. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to work alongside professionals who not only excel in their fields but also share a passion for innovation and excellence.

Collaboration is embedded in GCX’s culture, and the success of any project is always a team effort. Whether we’re optimizing network performance, rolling out new products, or managing complex customer needs, it’s the open communication and shared vision that drive us forward. I’m continuously inspired by the diverse perspectives and expertise of my team.

Neha Deradi, are there any mentors or individuals who have had a significant impact on your career here?

Yes, I’ve been fortunate to work with and learn from some outstanding leaders in my career. Some mentors, in particular, have had a profound impact on my career, helping me navigate complex decisions and offering invaluable advice on both professional and personal development. Their guidance has shaped how I approach leadership and strategy, particularly in a fast-moving industry like ours.

Through our conversations, I’ve learned the importance of staying grounded, maintaining a long-term vision, and always being open to feedback. This has not only influenced my work but also encouraged me to become a mentor myself.

How has your role evolved since joining GCX, and how have you grown as a professional?

Since joining GCX, my role has expanded in ways that have challenged and shaped me as a leader. Beyond the technical aspects of managing network operations, I’ve taken on more strategic responsibilities, leading cross-functional teams and global initiatives. The scale and complexity of GCX have pushed me to refine my problem-solving abilities and to think more holistically about our business impact.

One of the most fulfilling aspects of my growth has been the opportunity to spearhead the “Women in Technology” (W-in Tech) initiative at GCX. This program is a platform where we invite women leaders and professionals from across the industry to engage in discussions with our female workforce, fostering mentorship, support, and empowerment. It has been incredibly rewarding to see the impact of these sessions on the career trajectories and confidence of our women professionals.

What advice would you offer to new employees or those striving to excel in their careers at GCX?

My advice would be to stay curious, embrace challenges, and always look for opportunities to learn. GCX is a company that thrives on innovation, and there’s immense value in stepping out of your comfort zone and taking on tasks that push your boundaries. Build relationships, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to bring new ideas to the table.

Also, I would encourage new employees to find their support network, whether that’s through formal mentorship programs or informal connections.
